What is a style guide for?
Updated over 2 months ago

The Lingohub style guides are standards for translators to follow while translating texts. They help ensure the consistency of the translations within all the projects in which they are used. You can set up one style guide per one workspace.

Style guides properties

When creating a style guide, you have a list of properties you can describe.

  • Age range. The audience incorporates the age range of people your business is targeting. There are five audience groups available: children, teenagers, young adults, adults, and elderly people.

  • Literal translation. Texts can be translated with different styles and connotations. Here you can define if translated texts should have only the literal meaning or use a cultural, conversational, or neutral style.

  • Type of vocabulary. As with connotations, the vocabulary significantly impacts the audience. You can set the vocabulary type for using. The available options are fictional, popular, or technical.

  • Grammatical person. The grammatical person refers to the subject that translators should use when working on the texts. You can choose between eight grammatical persons, e.g., third-person feminine, third-person masculine, etc.

  • Formality. Texts can be translated in either a formal or informal manner. To get more accurate translations from the machine translation, define the formality type. In German, for instance, the MT suggestions will use Sie (formal) or du (informal), depending on the defined formality.

Note: Not all fields mentioned above are required when creating a style guide. You can choose not to specify any or all of the above mentioned types. You can also add or remove them later if necessary.
