How to create an API key

Read before: To learn more about tracking API activity, see our guide on How to check API logs.

API keys allow you to connect LingoHub to external tools, scripts, and automated workflows. To keep your Workspace secure, LingoHub uses a granular permission system for every key, allowing you to define exact access limits for both Workspace and Project-level actions.

Accessing the API keys manager

  1. Click on your Workspace menu in the top-left corner.

  2. Select API keys from the sidebar menu under Administration.

  3. Click the + Create a new API key button.

4-step API key creation wizard

General information

Define the basic identity and lifecycle of your key:

  • Name: Enter a clear identifier (e.g., demo-api-key-for-help-center).

  • Description (Optional): Add context regarding the key's intended use or connected tool.

  • Expiration date (Optional): Set an automatic expiration date to enforce high-security standards.

  • Click Continue.

Workspace permissions

Set global permissions across high-level workspace areas. For each area (e.g., Members, Plugins & Integrations, Logs, Orders & reports, Style guides, Glossaries, Translation memories, Labels), select an access level:

Access level

Description

No access

The item is fully restricted and cannot be viewed via the API.

View only

The item can be retrieved/viewed, but not modified.

Full access

The item can be viewed, updated, or edited without limitations.

Click Continue once configured.

Project permissions

Restrict the scope of project data that the key can access:

  1. Choose Projects access:

    • All: The key can interact with all current and future projects in the workspace.

    • Specific projects: Restrict the key to manually selected individual projects.

  2. Fine-tune access levels for project features like Languages, Settings, Context, and Segments (Segments General, Segments Keys, Segments Texts).

  3. Click Continue.

Summary & authentication

  1. Review your configuration details (General information, Projects access, and active Workspace permissions).

  2. Click Save.

  3. In the authentication modal (Authenticate to create a new API key), enter your user Password to confirm your identity.

  4. Click Create a new API key.

⚠️ Important: Save your token immediately!

For security reasons, the full API token is displayed only once, immediately after creation. Click the Copy key, then save it in a secure location (such as a password manager). You will not be able to view the full token again after leaving the page.
