How can I manage import/export settings for projects?

To ensure your resource files are processed exactly as you need them, whether you are uploading via the web interface or pulling from a repository, you can define global Import/Export settings. These settings help maintain consistency across your translations and automate the creation, updating, and export of segments.

To manage the Import / Export settings, follow these steps to navigate to the correct section:

  1. Click Projects in the top navigation bar, then select your desired project from the Overview list.

  2. Once inside the project, you will see several tabs below the project name. Select the Settings tab, then Imports/Exports to configure global defaults.

Import settings

The Import section defines how LingoHub handles incoming data from your resource files.

General

  • Key normalization strategy: Choose how LingoHub handles unwanted or invisible characters in your keys to ensure consistency. You can set this to Format specific, All, or None.

  • Language detection: When enabled, LingoHub will automatically use the source language if no specific language is detected in the file.

Source & target language rules

You can set different automation rules for your Source language and your Target languages:

  • Create new segments: Automatically create new entries in LingoHub if they exist in the file but not in the project.

  • Update segments: Define when existing segments should be overwritten. You can set this to Always, Only empty, and Never.

  • Delete segments: If a segment is missing from the imported file, LingoHub can automatically deactivate or delete it from the project to keep everything in sync.

Export settings

The Export section controls the structure and content of the files you download or push to a repository.

General

  • Encoding: Select the character encoding (UTF 8 or UTF 16) for your exported files.

  • HTML encoding: Define how HTML entities should be handled (Raw, Escape, or CDATA).

  • Language information: Choose how to include language tags in the filename (to all resource files, only to target language files, or to no resource files).

  • Export comments: Determine if and how translator comments should be included in the final file (to all resource files or only to the source language)

Status-based filtering

You can granularly decide which content is "ready" for production by filtering by status for both Source and Target languages:

  • Empty content handling: Choose whether to Keep or Skip segments that have no translation.

  • Status Toggles: Enable or disable the export of segments based on their current state (e.g., Draft, Translated, Pre-translated, or Approved).
