How to set up import and export preferences?
How to set up import and export preferences?
Updated over 2 months ago

When importing or exporting files within Lingohub, you can adjust the settings to ensure compatibility with your systems and applications and exchange only the needed text segments.

To set up the Import/Export, follow the steps below:

  1. Hover on "Projects" at the top navigation bar and select the project for which you want to set the import/export preferences.

  2. Click on the gear icon at the top-right corner and select the "Import / Export" tab.

  3. Select the needed parameters and click “Save.”

Inside the Import / Export tab, you can see the list of parameters that can differ depending on the project type. Below, you can find the description of each:

Import - General

This section enables how resource files, uploaded or pulled from a repository, are processed.

Text segment keys uniqueness

(*Not available in the following project types: CSV, HTML, Markdown, TXT, Figma, Zendesk, Contentful, Storyblok.)

  • Project — Keys must be unique at the project level. This setting means that text segments with duplicate keys cannot exist within one project, regardless of which resource files they are located in.

  • Resource file — This setting means that text segments with duplicate keys cannot exist within one resource file, but keys having the same name can be used in other resource files within the same project.

Language detection

(*Available for all project types.)

When this option is selected, Lingohub will use the project's source language if it cannot determine the appropriate language of a resource file. This situation may arise if information about the language cannot be extracted from the file path or content.

Import - Source language

(*Not available in the following project types: HTML, Markdown, TXT, Figma, Zendesk, Contentful, Storyblok)

Import - Target language

(*Not available in the following project types: CSV, HTML, Markdown, TXT, Figma, Zendesk, Contentful, Storyblok)

  • Create new segments through imports — Lingohub creates new text segments if the imported file contains new keys that don't exist in the project.

  • Update segments through imports — Lingohub updates text segments if the imported file contains the keys already existing in the project. The system will replace the old text with the new one.

  • Delete segments through imports — Lingohub deletes text segments if the imported file doesn't contain the keys already existing in the project.

Note: At Lingohub, we strongly recommend always using the default settings. The adjustments should only be made temporarily and in specific cases.

Export - General

This section enables how resource files, downloaded or pushed to a repository, are processed.

Encoding

(* Not available in the following project types: Figma, Zendesk, Contentful, Storyblok)

This setting allows you to adjust the character encoding for file export. The project's resource type defines the available values.

Please note that the first option is always the recommended one encoding for your resource type.

HTML Encoding

(*Only available in the following project types: Android XML, QT Linguist TS, Windows ResX, XLIFF)

If applicable, this setting defines how HTML content must be escaped in exported files.

Please note: If you encounter a situation where HTML content wasn't rendered as needed for your particular setup, trying a different option might lead to the desired result.

Add language information to file name

(* Not available in the following project types: Figma, Zendesk, Contentful, Storyblok)

  • To all resource files — This parameter adds the language information during the export to all resource files (source and target language files.)

  • Only to target language files — This parameter adds the language information during the export only to target language files.

  • To no resource files — When selecting this option, language information is not added to any resource files during the export.

Export Comments

(* Not available in the following project types: TXT, Figma, Zendesk, Contentful, Storyblok)

  • To all resource files — Comments are rendered to all resource files, regardless of whether they are source or target language files.

  • Only to source language — Adds comments only to the source language files.

Export - Source Language

Empty content handling

(* Not available in the following project types: CSV, HTML, Markdown, TXT, Figma, Zendesk, Contentful, Storyblok)

  • Keep text segments with empty content — When this option is selected, Lingohub will export source text segments that don't contain text (empty segments.)

Export text segment with status

(* Not available in the following project types: CSV, HTML, Markdown, TXT, Figma, Zendesk, Contentful, Storyblok)

  • Draft — will export the source segments with the status "Draft."

  • Approved — will export the source segments with the status "Approved."

Export - Target Language

Empty content handling

  • Keep text segments with empty content - When this option is selected, Lingohub will export target text segments that do not contain text (empty segments.)
