How to create an API key?

Updated this week

Read before about API log in this article

API keys allow you to connect LingoHub to other tools and workflows. To ensure your Workspace remains secure, LingoHub provides a granular permission system for every key, allowing you to define exactly which data can be accessed or modified via the API.

To create an API key, you need to have the appropriate administrative rights within your Workspace.

How to access API keys

  1. Click your Workspace icon in the top-left corner.

  2. Select Logs & security from the side menu.

  3. Click on API keys.

  4. Click the Create a new API key button in the top-right corner or the center of the page.

1. Enter general information

In the first step of the setup wizard, General information, define the basic identity of your key:

  • Name: Give the key a clear name so you can identify it later.

  • Description (Optional): Add a brief note explaining the key’s specific purpose.

  • Expiration date (Optional): Set a date for the key to automatically expire to maintain high security standards.

2. Define Workspace permissions

In the Workspace permissions step, determine which global actions the key can perform. For each category, such as Administration or Orders, you can choose between three access levels:

  • No access: The item is fully restricted and cannot be viewed.

  • View only: The item can be viewed but not modified.

  • Full access: The item can be viewed and edited without limitations.

3. Restrict Project access

In the Project permissions step, you can narrow the key's scope to specific parts of your work:

  • All projects: The permissions specified will apply to all projects in the Workspace.

  • Specific projects: The key will only have access to the individual projects you manually select.

  • Fine-tuning: You can set specific access levels for project categories like Languages, Settings, Resources, and Context Images.

4. Review and save

The final Summary provides a complete overview of your configuration before the key is generated.

  • Review the General information, Projects access, and the list of Workspace permissions.

  • Click Save to generate the key.

Important Security Note: For your protection, the API key will only be displayed once. Copy it immediately and store it in a secure location, such as a password manager. If the key is lost, you will need to create a new one.
