How to set up the Azure integration?

LingoHub’s Azure DevOps integration enables a quick and smooth localization process for your repository files. To get started, you will need to generate a personal access token in Azure and connect it within your LingoHub workspace. This article provides a detailed, step-by-step guide to completing this setup.

Create a Personal Access token in Azure

⚠️ Important: Azure Tokens are granted per user account and organization rather than per repository. If that user leaves your organization, the token will become invalid, requiring an update in LingoHub settings.

To create your token:

  1. Sign in to your Azure DevOps account.

  2. Click the User settings icon in the top-right corner and select Personal access tokens.

  3. Click the + New Token button.

  4. Enter a Name for your token (e.g., Test).

  5. Select your specific Organization from the dropdown menu or choose All accessible organizations.

    • 💬 Please note: As of December 1, 2026, Azure will discontinue the "All accessible organizations" global scope option. You must explicitly select a specific organization for the token after this date.

  6. Set the Expiration date. Azure allows a maximum expiration period of 365 days / 1 year into the future.

  7. Define the required Scopes:

    • You can select Full access or select Custom defined with the minimum permissions below:

    • Code: Read & Write (Required): Allows LingoHub to access repositories and push updated translation files.

    • Work Items: Read (Optional): Required for automatic background synchronization.

    • Build: Read (Optional): Required for automatic file change detection (webhooks).

  8. Click Create.

  9. Copy the generated personal access token immediately and save it securely.

💬 Please note: You won't be able to see the token twice!

Connect Azure to LingoHub

Once your personal access token is generated, add Azure authentication to your LingoHub workspace:

  1. In LingoHub, click your workspace name in the top-left menu and select Plugins & Integrations.

  2. Find Azure in the integrations list and click Manage.

  3. If no authentications exist, click Add new authentication.

  4. In the setup window, enter an authentication Name (e.g., azure test) and paste your Azure Access token.

  5. Click Create. Your new authentication will now appear in your workspace list.

Connect Azure to a LingoHub project

After authenticating, link your Azure DevOps repository to a new LingoHub project:

Start project creation

Click Projects in the top navigation bar and click + Create project.

Name and select category

Enter your Project name (e.g., Azure Project) and optional context. Under Select project category, select Azure and click Continue.

💬 Please note: Azure is a file-based integration. Non-file-based CMS platforms like Contentful, Figma, or Zendesk use direct platform connections instead.

Configure authentication & connection

Under Step 1 (Authentication & connection):

  • Select your Azure authentication.

  • Enter your Azure Repository URL/path (found in Azure DevOps under Repos, then Files or Clone).

  • Enter the target Branch (e.g., "master" or "main").

  • Click Continue.

Define project type & file synchronization

Under Step 2 (Type & files sync):

  • Select a project type: Choose your resource file format (e.g., Properties, Markdown, Android XML, JSON). LingoHub supports one primary file format per project.

  • Configure synchronization filters: Click Include or enter file patterns to match the exact files you want to sync. See our guide on resource filters for more information on filter options.

  • Click Save selection and then click Continue.

Add project languages

Under Step 3 (Languages):

  • Click Add languages.

  • Select your target locales.

  • Set your Source language.

  • Click Continue.

Review summary & finalize

Under Step 4 (Summary), review your project setup details and click Create project. You will be redirected to the Languages view in the Projects tab.

Managing Azure synchronization (Pull & Push)

Once your project is created, you can trigger manual file synchronizations or configure pull requests:

  1. Open your LingoHub project dashboard (Projects tab).

  2. Click the Azure badge in the top-right header to open the Azure sync panel.

  3. Choose your sync action:

    • Pull files: Click Pull to fetch the latest resource files from Azure. In the popup window, select specific branches, files, or languages, then click Pull.

    • Push files: Click Push to commit completed translations back to Azure. Select Create pull request, enter your pull request branch name, title, and description templates, and click Push.

Updating or renewing Azure tokens

Since Azure PATs expire after a maximum of 1 year, you must update your token in LingoHub before it expires:

  1. Go to Workspace, then Plugins & Integrations.

  2. Click Manage on the Azure card.

  3. In the authentications list, click the Edit (pencil) icon next to your token entry.

  4. In the modal, toggle on Update token, paste your new personal access token into the Access token field, and click Update.
