The LingoHub Figma plugin settings allow you to control how your localized designs are generated inside Figma and which text elements are sent to LingoHub for translation. (LINK to HC article: "How to set up the Figma plugin & translate designs?")
Important information about plugin settings
Before customizing your configuration, keep the following rules in mind:
Project-wide scope: Settings belong to the LingoHub project itself rather than your personal account or an individual Figma file. Everyone translating with that project shares the same configuration.
Immediate auto-save: Any changes you make in the settings panel take effect immediately, there is no manual save button.
User permissions: If you do not have the manage settings permission in LingoHub, all options will be greyed out, and the plugin will display the notice "You don't have permission to change the settings."
Project-type availability: Certain options only appear for specific project types (e.g., Overwrite translated design is shown for copy & paste projects).
Overwrite translated design
Determines what happens when you run a translation on a page that has already been translated previously:
yes: Replaces the existing translated section or page, recreating it with the newest text. Recommended for daily workflows to avoid cluttering your file with outdated versions.
no: Preserves existing translated pages and creates a new one alongside them, adding a timestamp to the name (e.g.,
Homepage_de (07/09/2026 14:30:12)). Ideal when you need to archive or review older translation iterations.
Pre-translate new text segments
When enabled, any text node that is new to LingoHub is automatically translated before the plugin pulls localized copy back into Figma.
Enabled: Your exported design comes back fully populated with instant AI translations.
Disabled: New text nodes remain untranslated until a translator or LINA processes them inside LingoHub.
💡 Note: Existing segments in LingoHub are never overwritten by this option. If pre-translation fails for a language, affected strings remain unchanged.
Upload context images
When enabled, the plugin takes screenshots of your selected Figma frames and uploads them to LingoHub alongside your text.
This gives translators and LINA immediate visual context in the Editor, preventing ambiguity for short UI strings like Open, Post, or Back. (Note: Capturing and uploading screenshots slightly increases translation run time).
Excluding texts from translation
Exclusion options tell the plugin to skip specific text nodes. Skipped layers are not sent to LingoHub: they do not consume translation volume, generate keys, or alter their original content on localized pages.
⚠️ Important: Exclusion rules match against the entire text content of a node, not individual words inside a sentence.
