How to set up the Figma plugin & translate designs

Learn how to install the LingoHub plugin in Figma, connect a project, configure AI translation with LINA, trigger translations directly from your Figma design, and inspect localized design pages.

Launch and authenticate the plugin

Open your Figma Design file.
Click the Main menu icon in the top-left corner, go to Plugins, and select Manage plugins... .
Search for LingoHub for Figma in the search bar and launch it.
In the plugin window, click Sign in at lingohub.com.
In your browser window, click Grant access to authenticate your account.
Return to Figma, click Select a workspace, and choose your target LingoHub workspace.

💡 Quick access: Once used, the plugin will automatically appear at the top of your Plugins menu list for fast access.

Create or connect a Figma project in LingoHub

Option A: Create a new project via the plugin

Click Create new project in the plugin window.
In the LingoHub app, enter a Project name and select Figma under the Design category.
Select your Source language and Target languages, then click Continue.
Review your project settings and click Create project.

Option B: Select an existing project

In Figma, click the Refresh icon in the plugin window if your newly created project is not listed yet.
Choose your project from the Select a project dropdown menu and click Continue.

Connect LINA for automatic translation

To enable automated translation when exporting designs from Figma, assign a LINA to your project:

In LingoHub, open your project dashboard and click Connect LINA or the LINA icon in the upper right corner
Select your desired LINA from the dropdown menu and click Connect.
Set LINA's role for your target languages:
- Translator: Pre-translates text segments and moves them to Needs review, leaving final approval to a human team member.
- Agent: Autonomously translates, checks, and approves text, directly moving the segment to Done without manual intervention.

⚠️ Important: Automated translation will not run if LINA is unassigned or set to Assistant. To learn more about setting up LINA, check our guides on how to create a LINA and LINA roles and behavior.

Run translation from the Figma plugin

Now that everything is set up in LingoHub, return to Figma.
In the project overview panel, click Translate designs.
(Optional) Adjust the plugin settings to fit your needs. Per default, a new page will be added for each translated design (per target language), translated designs will not be overwritten and design screenshots will be automatically uploaded to LingoHub.

Select the Figma pages you want to translate from the dropdown menu.
Select your target languages and click Translate.

Access localized designs in Figma

Once translation processing completes:

Review the Translate summary pop-up window showing the count of exported text frames, screenshots, and generated pages. You can also go to LingoHub and view more details (see below).
Look at your left sidebar in your Figma file: If enabled in your plugin settings, new duplicated pages tagged with language codes (e.g., Page 1_de, Page 1_fr) will appear automatically.
Click on any localized page to inspect the translated layout and UI text directly inside your design.

Inspect assets and context images in LingoHub
Click See on lingohub.com in the plugin summary window to open your project dashboard.
- Languages view: Track translation progress percentages and word counts per language.
- Files tab: View your synced Figma design pages listed as segment containers.
- Imports & Exports tab: Review processing logs for segment container uploads.
- Context Images tab: Access automatically generated design screenshots (if enabled in your plugin settings). Click any image to view bounding boxes linking design frames directly to individual text segments in the Editor.
